The first edition of the “IFCN Recommendations for the Practice of Clinical Neurophysiology” was edited by W.A. Cobb in 1983. For many years it was recognised dictum of clinical practice worldwide. A second edition became necessary to deal with the rapid expansion of Clinical Neurophysiology in the intervening 18 years, including new methodology much of which has become routine. Excerpt of preface by editors G. Deuschl, Germany and A. Eisen, Canada
