2026 International Congress of Clinical Neurophysiology (ICCN)
Celebrating Science, Collaboration, and the Next Generation
The 34th International Congress of Clinical Neurophysiology (ICCN 2026) concluded in Cartagena, Colombia, September 8-12, 2026, bringing together the global clinical neurophysiology community for five days of scientific discovery, education, networking, and collaboration.
The congress featured 18 pre-congress courses, 300 academic sessions, 14 sponsors and exhibitors, four networking events, and six award presentations. More than 900 attendees representing 61 countries participated.
"For the first time in the history of the ICCN, we offered a dedicated Spanish-language track — a decision born from hosting the congress in Latin America, and our conviction that science must reach clinicians in the language they think and practice in,” said Jorge Gutierrez, Congress Scientific Committee Co-Chair, “Seeing hundreds of colleagues from across the region engage fully with world-class content in Spanish was, for me, the defining success of ICCN 2026."

Celebrating Scientific Achievement
During the Closing Ceremony the ICCN Oral and Poster Awards were presented by Hatice Tankisi and Jorge Gutierrez, Scientific Committee Co-Chairs, recognizing the congress's most outstanding scientific contributions.

Honoring the Next Generation of Researchers
The Closing Ceremony also recognized recipients of the Young Investigator Paper Awards, presented by Robert Chen, Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Neurophysiology, and Juliana Trajano of Elsevier.
Herbert H. Jasper Young Investigator Paper Award (2024) was awarded to Clotilde Turpin (France). The competition attracted 24 applicants and included a €5,000 prize.
Grey Walter Young Investigator Paper Award (2026) was awarded to Xianwei Che (China). The award received 22 applications and carried a €5,000 prize.
Award-Winning Science Showcased
"The scientific program of ICCN 2026 was a truly collective achievement,” said Gutierrez. “The IFCN's Special Interest Groups and our affiliated societies took ownership of their thematic areas by shaping sessions, selecting speakers, and helping set the standard for the scientific content."
Clotilde Turpin (France) presented her award-winning research examining the effects of direct electrical stimulation applied to the human brain.
Xianwei Che (China) also presented his award-winning research, highlighting the high caliber of emerging scientific talent within the global clinical neurophysiology community.

Celebrating Leadership
The Presidential Lecture, chaired by Hatice Tankisi and Ulf Ziemann, recognized outgoing President Jonathan Cole and marked the formal transition of leadership to incoming President Riki Matsumoto.
Looking Ahead to ICCN 2028
Fleur Van Rootselaar, Viviane Van Kasteel, and Martijn Tannemaat offered attendees a preview of ICCN 2028 and invited the global community to Rotterdam.
ICCN 2028 will take place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, at Postillion WTC Rotterdam, September 26–30, 2028.

Reflections on ICCN 2026
“The most special aspect of the Congress for me was the entire process,” said Hatice Tankisi, Scientific Committee Co-Chair, “from the preparations to the congress itself. It was a great pleasure to work with the Scientific Committee and the congress staff. The professionalism, support, and dedication of everyone involved made the hard work a memorable experience.”

ICCN 2026 also introduced oral presentation sessions, a format not traditionally part of ICCN. . This gave young clinical neurophysiologists an opportunity to share their research with a broader audience and gain greater visibility.
The International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology extends its sincere appreciation to the speakers, authors, moderators, exhibitors, sponsors, volunteers, committee members, and delegates who contributed to the success of ICCN 2026.
Thank you to everyone who made ICCN 2026 an outstanding scientific and educational event. We look forward to continuing the momentum in Rotterdam in 2028.
